Big mortgages on church buildings, and large payrolled staffs, necessitate preaching that attracts enough people to pay those expenses. As a result, only the 'love of Jesus' is often preached. Yet Jesus had as much to say about hell as heaven. Eternal punishment and the requirement of repentance are unpleasant subjects, and will offend some people - that's why Christians can expect persecution, as Jesus was persecuted.

"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Mt.10:28

When only the love of God is taught, you are unlikely to get true repentance and faith because the people don’t understand their need for repentance.

If salvation was solely due to our actions, those churches probably wouldn’t have any Christians at all. Luckily, salvation comes from God and He is capable of overcoming our failings.
